Korea's two biggest theme parks get compared constantly, and the honest answer to "which is better?" is: they're built for different days. Lotte World is the convenient, weatherproof city park. Everland is the full-day destination with the big rides. Here's how to choose.

At a glance

| Lotte World | Everland | |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Jamsil, inside Seoul | Yongin, about an hour from Seoul |
| Getting there | Subway straight into the building | Shuttle bus or subway + light rail |
| Indoor/outdoor | Big indoor park + outdoor island | Mostly outdoor |
| Best for | Short visits, rain, evenings, younger kids | A full day, thrill rides, animals |
| Signature | The indoor "Adventure" hall and the castle | T Express coaster, safari, pandas |
| Time needed | Half day to full day | Full day |
Lotte World
Lotte World is split into two parts: Lotte World Adventure, a huge indoor park under a glass dome, and Magic Island, an outdoor section on Seokchon Lake with the famous fairytale castle.
- Weatherproof: the indoor half runs whatever the weather — the best rainy-day activity in Seoul
- Central: Jamsil Station (Lines 2 & 8) connects directly into the complex
- Combine it: Lotte World Tower (with its Seoul Sky observation deck), the aquarium and a big mall are in the same complex
- Evenings: discounted after-4pm tickets are often available, and the parade and lights are best after dark

Lotte World's best rides and shows
Lotte World is strongest on variety in a small space: you can ride a proper coaster, a drop tower and a flume, and catch two parades, all within a few minutes' walk.

Indoors you'll also find the French Revolution coaster, the Flume Ride, the Pharaoh's Fury jeep ride and the balloon ride circling under the dome, so a rainy day is no problem.

Everland
Everland is Korea's largest theme park and one of the most visited in Asia. It's a proper destination day.
- T Express — a steep, fast wooden roller coaster, and the ride thrill-seekers come for
- Zootopia & safari — a drive-through safari by bus, plus a large zoo area. Everland's panda family is a huge draw, so expect a queue for them
- Seasonal festivals — tulips in spring, a Halloween season in autumn, and Christmas lights in winter, each with parades and themed decoration
- Water rides — including a rafting ride; bring a change of clothes in summer
Everland's best rides and shows
Everland is the bigger, more ambitious park: longer rides, real animals and a proper night show. It's spread over a hillside, so plan your route.

Other favourites: Rolling X-Train (a looping coaster), Amazon Express (a white-water raft ride — you will get wet) and Lost Valley, an amphibious vehicle safari.
Getting there: pros and cons
| Lotte World | Everland | |
|---|---|---|
| How | Subway to Jamsil (Lines 2 & 8), walk straight in | Shuttle bus from Seoul, or subway + Everline + park shuttle |
| Time from central Seoul | 20–40 min | 60–90 min each way |
| Pros | No planning, cheap, easy to leave early or come back after dinner | Shuttle drops you at the gate; bundles with tickets |
| Cons | Jamsil Station is huge and busy — follow the Lotte World signs | Long day; last shuttle times are fixed, and traffic can be slow on weekends |
Getting to Everland
- Shuttle buses run from several pickup points in Seoul (often bundled with tickets on booking sites) — the easiest option
- Public transport: subway to Giheung, then the Everline light rail to Jeondae·Everland Station, then a free park shuttle
- Allow 60–90 minutes each way, and aim to arrive at opening

Tickets: don't pay gate price
Both parks sell foreigner-exclusive discount tickets through booking platforms. They're often much cheaper than the gate price and let you skip the ticket queue. The catch: you'll usually need to show a foreign passport at entry.
Both parks also sell express-queue passes (Lotte World's Magic Pass, Everland's Q-Pass) on busy days. Worth it on weekends and holidays; usually unnecessary on a quiet weekday.
Tips for both parks

- Weekdays are dramatically quieter than weekends and Korean school holidays
- Check the park app or map for ride wait times and show schedules
- Food inside is fine but pricey — eat a big breakfast
- School groups arrive mid-morning on weekdays in spring and autumn; do the big rides first
Beyond the rides
At Lotte World:
- Lotte World Tower and Seoul Sky — one of the tallest buildings in the world, with an observation deck and a glass floor near the top
- Lotte World Aquarium — in the mall under the tower, good for a rainy afternoon
- Seokchon Lake — a walking loop around the lake, especially beautiful in cherry blossom season
At Everland:
- Caribbean Bay — a large water park next door, open in the warmer months with separate tickets
- Seasonal gardens — tulips in spring, roses in early summer, autumn colours later in the year

Food and saving money inside
- Eat a big breakfast before you go — park food is convenient but pricey
- Bring water and small snacks if the rules allow; check the park's current policy
- Lotte World's mall has food courts and restaurants that are usually better value than food inside the park
- Everland has plenty of restaurants, but they're busiest around noon — eat early or late
A sample day at each park
Lotte World: arrive at opening, do the indoor Adventure rides first while queues are short, head out to Magic Island around midday, then return indoors when it gets busy or rains. Stay for the evening parade.
Everland: go straight to T Express at opening, then the safari before the queues build. Visit the pandas mid-morning, have an early lunch, and leave the gentler rides and seasonal garden for the afternoon.
Other theme parks near Seoul
- Seoul Land in Gwacheon — smaller, older and much quieter, good for young kids
- Water parks operate around Seoul in summer if you want a cooler day out
Our honest take
Both are great, but most visitors only need one. Pick based on your time and what you want from the day.
Choose Lotte World if:
- You have half a day, or it's raining
- You're with younger kids
- You want to combine it with shopping, the aquarium or Seoul Sky
Choose Everland if:
- You want big roller coasters and a proper full day out
- You love animals — the safari and pandas are highlights
- You're visiting during a seasonal festival
Skip both if:
- You're only in Seoul for two or three days and haven't seen the city itself yet
Our tip: go on a weekday, buy foreigner discount tickets in advance, bring your passport, and arrive at opening. The first hour is when you'll ride the most with the shortest queues.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do both on the same trip?
Yes, but not on the same day. Give each its own day, or pick one if you're short on time.
Which is better for young kids?
Lotte World — shorter distances, indoor space and easier logistics. Everland's zoo is great for kids too, but it's a longer day.
Which is better for thrill rides?
Everland, clearly. T Express alone is worth the trip for coaster fans.
Is Lotte World open when it rains?
The indoor Adventure section is. Some outdoor Magic Island rides close in bad weather.
Do I really need my passport?
If you bought a foreigner discount ticket, yes — bring the physical passport.
